Kylesku Bridge is undoubtedly a must-see on our famous North Coast 500! The iconic bridge was designed to complement the surrounding area as it replaced a car ferry and formed part of the A894. If you have time, stop and admire this great feature… When the wind is still, Kylesku Bridge is the perfect location to slow down, stop the engine and catch your breath, if only for a moment.
What You’ll Need to Know Before Visiting…
Where is Kylesku Bridge?
There’s no doubt that you will drive over the Kylesku Bridge on your North Coast 500 road trip. It’s on the official route, so keep your eyes peeled as you drive along the A894. Kylesku Bridge has a distinctive curve, so once the landscape opens up to a view of Loch a’ Chairn Bhain then enjoy the surrounding outstanding views over Sutherland as you drive across.
Where to Park at Kylesku Bridge
Park your vehicle at either of the two nearby car parks to be amazed by the beauty of the bridge in-situ. There are two car parks at Kylesku Bridge; one on each side.
North Car Park

This car park has a better angle to enjoy the bridge and admire how the structure compliments the wider scenery. There is also a plaque at the north car park which celebrates the opening of the bridge and a cairn. Park at this location to walk to the best Kylesku Bridge viewpoint for jaw-dropping photographs.
South Car Park

The south car park is at a slightly lower level, and closer to the village of Kylesku. If you’d like to walk over to the hotel for a dinner, take a boat trip, or be in closer proximity to public toilets then park at this car park. It has a better phone signal too!

How to Photograph the Kylesku Bridge
The best Kylesku Bridge viewpoint is a very short walk from the north car park. Follow the road from the parking, then before the bridge begins leave the pavement to climb the small hill just behind. You’ll notice faint trails left by previous visitors. This area of higher ground is perfect for looking straight down the bridge with a to-die-for backdrop of the Scottish mountains.
TIP: Look out for stags; they are commonly sighted around this area.
If there is any better way to capture the entire scene of Kylesku, it would be with your drone.
Kylesku Bridge Camping
Overnight stays are permitted at both of the mentioned car parks at Kylesku Bridge. From my own experience, I’ve also witnessed others pitch tents under the bridge and on the outskirts of the car parking areas. There are waste and recycling bins in the area to ensure nothing is left behind. If you’d like to find another park-up, check out the ultimate list of overnight stops on the NC500.
